In our major development project in Jinping, in the southern part of the Chinese province Yunnan, we wanted to increase the income of the people of the villages by improving the farming of medicine plants in the area. The people there have already a tradition in growing medicine plants but together we made a nursery and improved the irrigation canals for the farm and more than 300 hectares of barren mountain land was planted.
From small seeds to fields of medicine plants
Nurseries were made to grow the different plants especially the Tsao Ko a kind of cardamom plant and other traditional herbal medicine plants used by the Yao minority. Afterward the plants were planted in the shade of the nearby forest.
Tremendous teamwork
Everyone in the different villages work closely together to keep the nurseries and take care of the plants in the forest. The plants will be sold to local buyers and hopefully create more income to the people of the 5 villages who have done a tremendous work to make the project a success.
