Since 2005 the BESTSELLER employees in Denmark are sponsoring 170 children in two schools in Uganda – Kakundi and Mukono. The poor children have been “adopted” by different departments/employees in BESTSELLER. The employees take this parent role very seriously – they even made a fundraising campaign which enabled the schools to have a big party and sports event, where the two schools met for a weekend for the first time ever. It was an excellent experience for both the children and the teachers.
A 5 year sponsorship programme
BESTSELLER FUND has, together with BESTSELLER and ICWS, created a sponsorship programme for 5 years for the absolute neediest children at the two schools. The funds from the sponsorship give the poor and often orphaned children an education that corresponds to the Government schools as well as a safe place to grow up. Many of these children are not able to attend Government schools because of the fees which are impossible for the families to pay.
A new safe haven
Both schools have homes where the orphans can live. Many of these children have lost their parents because of AIDS. They are traumatized and full of despair when they come to the children's home, but the staff succeeds in giving them a feeling of being part of a new family and helping them find a purpose in life.
