BESTSELLER FUND has supported a project in India which aims at helping drug addicted children. The name of the organization is SUPPORT, and BESTSELLER FUND has supported SUPPORTs Girls house.The rehabilitation center for girls focuses on street girls who are drug users and prostitute themselves in order to survive. Some of the girls are HIV positive. The girls have run away from their homes for many reasons. Some of the reasons may be addiction in the family, bad relationships with stepparents, lack of interest in studies, or peer pressure.
Getting second chance of a new start in life
After the medical treatment and detoxification programme the younger children are encouraged to go to school. The elder children participate in a vocational training programme aimed at providing job skills so that they can become financially independent and responsible citizens leaving behind their background. SUPPORT runs several day-centres, where street children can come during the day, and where they are offered counseling, medical assistance, and recreational facilities. SUPPORT staff tries to motivate the children to leave the street life.
